19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since March of that year.

The win also means he has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an better service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four initial break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
