Cars in German City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were contacted by a man who discovered a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.

A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
